Are you looking for a small car with a premium appearance and the decisive badge? If so, the Evergreen Audi A1 should be on your shopping list.
It has been with us for a few years now and has built up a strong supporter – and now there is another good reason to own you.
It is available with an impressive new small engine, which is about extracting the maximum performance and economy.
The increase in Turbetrol engines with three cylinders was one of the largest growth areas of the last years and the 1.0-liter unit in the A1 is one of the best available.
I tested the entry -level A1 Sportback 1.0 TFSI SE with a base price of £ 15,150, but thanks to a series of optional extras, inflated to more than 20,000 GBP, including black Milano leather seats and “flowers silver elements in contrasting color” … whatever they are .
The sportsback is visually similar to the regular assembly line, except that it has five doors and a slightly higher roof line.
The A1 is well aged, and although it is not as quirky as some rivals, including the Fiat 500 and Mini, it is an adult little car with a premium appearance.
Especially inside it is comfortable and plush with a well-stored dashboard with a 6.5-inch infotainment system that also benefits from Audi’s Rotary Controller below in the center console.
There are also 15-inch alloys, swabs, air conditioning systems and full electrical windows. There are Alcantara sports seats, xenon headlights, rear diffuser and roof spoiler as well as automatic lights and wipers.
Press the start button and it is immediately obvious that the A1 Sportback is very clever, with just a hint of Thrum from the engine, but the sound seal is impressive.
With easy steering and compact proportions, it is ideal for driving in the city, but it is also happy to stretch your legs on streets and highways.
The powerful small engine gives the A1 the feeling of a pocket rocket that is able to live in 11.1 seconds (although it seems more lively) and a top speed of 116 km / h.
It is also economical. In theory it can be 67.3 MPG, although it is closer to 50 MPG in the real world, whereby the CO2 emissions under the Magic 100g/KM level (97) are subject to it, which means that it is also tax-free .
The A1 is also fun to drive in corners with sharp handling and surprisingly well -controlled body. The transmission is smooth and the clutch has an easy action – just as it should be.
The A1 Sportback is comfortable and spacious, while the legroom is the back seat on average and larger passengers may fight around the head.
The last time it was tested by Euro NCAP, received a maximum five-star security valuation and is well equipped with a complete addition to airbags.
Verdict: The A1 Sportback is pretty much everything you would expect from a baby audi. A premium choice with a small car with additional doors, increased passenger space and a brisk engine is seriously useful for small families and other car owners who reduce themselves or simply have a first step towards the Audi manager.
