Citroen C5 Aircross Review

It may be too late to the SUV party, but the brand new Citroen C5 aircraft is more than welcome.

Citroen against well-established competitors such as Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga, Kia Sportage, Peugeot 3008 and Mazda CX-5 knows that the C5 aircraft has to have a USP and that is exactly what it has.

It is not only as good as the opposition in terms of drive skills, practicality and processing quality, but also with brave styling and serious comfort – a high -quality citroen has rediscovered aircraft with C3, C4 Cactus and C3 in recent years.

The C5 flight cross is unmistakable from the front and has the new face of Citroen with the two-stage light signatures and color inserts that are shared with its siblings.

The increased driving height, the profile and the back are somewhat conventional SUV, although it is good to see that Citroen has recorded the air bumps – now the underside of the doors.

In general, it is an unmistakable and good looking car with a variety of personalization options. In fact, Citroen claims that there are possible 30 external combinations.

Inside there is very citroen with an attractive mix of cool design, comfort, space and technology. Equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and an 8.0-inch HD touchscreen in the center console, it is available in three equipment variants, flair and flair plus.

Standard technologies for security and driver aid include advanced active safety brake, Active Lane Departle Warning and Active Blind Spot Monitoring. Grip Control with Hill Descent Assist (next best to the all-wheel drive) is also available for off-road adventures.

Citroen’s “Progressive Hydraulic Cushion” Anlation System “For a uniquely smooth and comfortable journey” is equipped with the C5 airline, while advanced comfort seats (standard with flair and flair plus) are certainly well padded and comfortable.

It is also practically with many small storage rooms that were cast around the cabin, as well as three individual rear seats that slide, fold and lean back. There is also a first -class trunk volume of 580 liters and 720 liters (depending on the position of the rear seats), with the seats of the second row being freaked below.

Price of 24,355 GBP is driven by Citroen’s impressive selection of efficient pureetech petrol and bluei diesel engines, paired with a six-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gear.

The C5 aircraft will also be the first Citroen Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) model, but you have to wait until the beginning of 2020.

The four engines offered are 1.2 (PureTech 130) and 1.6-liter (PureTech 180) petrol engine and 1.5 (Bluehdi 130) and 2.0-liter (BlueHDI 130) diesel.

I tested the entry -level provider gasoline and the smaller diesel with automatic transmission.

The 1.2-liter petrol-turbo engine of three-cylinder 128 hp is okay in the city and will drive happily on a highway, but if it is pushing on challenging roads, this can work out.

The manual transmission is exceptionally chic (almost with the Mazda-CX-5) and with a time of 0.5 seconds and a top speed of 117 miles per hour, it is sufficient for most. With CO2 emissions of only 118 g/km and fuel consumption of up to 44.2 MPG, it is a great all-rounder.

If you want a little more grunt and want better fuel consumption, the 1.5 diesel may be the better option. It has a top speed of 117 miles per hour and takes 11.8 seconds to reach 62 miles per hour (but seem faster), while the CO2 emissions are low 107 g/km and in the combined cycle a stressed 56.3 mpg are able.

The diesel is a beautiful engine that only makes itself known if it is pressed hard while the 8-speed automatic transmission changes quickly and smoothly.

With this engine option there is also a sports mode button that stiffens the suspensions a little and sharpens the gas reaction.

The journey is soft and floating (and I mean that in a good way), but it manages to keep the body role in faster corners. However, it can still be recorded on the street by the strange bump and sharper. The steering is easy and visible and makes the C5 aircraft a good option for the city.

The driving position is located on the highest side, even if the seat is the lowest (we call this a commanding view of the street) and the passengers are also quite high up.

That means there is plenty of space in the cabin for five adults, but it is best to check the rear when you choose the panorama sliding roof because it nibbles into the headroom.

As much as we like the interior, it is only a shame that there are no soft table surfaces and some of the switchgear settles. Nevertheless, the car is solidly composed as a whole and feels safe on the street.

Verdict: The brand new Citroen C5 Aircross is a touch of fresh air. An SUV that dares to be different, but also comfortable, practical, spacious, safe and appealing. Work done.
