If you are on the market for a medium -sized flowbackback and don’t want to be one of the herds, you are just the thing for you in the characteristic DS 4.
DS, Citroen’s classic independent sister brand, consistently offers something different and the DS 4 is a good example.
It may not be perfect, but it has a lot to offer and it is definitely worth thinking.
The DS 4 is in two body styles offered a five-door fluid rearback or a claak increased version, which is referred to as crossback.
I tested the five-door assembly line that is slim with rear doors that fit into the body and gives it a coupé-like feeling.
It cost 20,745 GBP (22,065 GBP with extras, including metallic varnish and aluminum sports pedals) and was at the top of the range.
Even if the Elegance equipment volume at the bottom contains countless options, including 7-inch color touchscreen, dark tinted rear windows, automatic lights and windscreen wipers, two rear peak points and speed control.
The car I tested came with a powerful 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder with 128 hp and it was a revelation.
Unusually, I blindly climbed into this car and assumed that it was a 1.6-liter unit-a proof of the great strides engineers who have produced more power in smaller engines in recent years.
With hard acceleration there is a mild thrum, which is not a bad thing, but the engine/auto combination is surprisingly refined if it sits down and happily drives with the highway speed, which is supported by a smooth six-speed manual transmission.
For the recording, it can be capable of 0-62 miles per hour in 9.9 seconds, a top speed of 123 km/h and competitive emissions of 120 g/km.
A total of three petrol and three diesel engines are available for the DS 4, with the BlueHdi 120 an impressive 74MPG on paper.
Noble cabin
Inside there is a first -class feeling and it is also comfortable, thanks to the DS signature “Watchstrap” effect brown leather seats.
As you would expect from DS, the interior has beautiful design details, including retro digits and minimal keys and switches to overload it, while the touchscreen of the car works with Apple’s CarPlay technology or mirror link for other smartphones.
There are no such good news for the rear passengers, because while legroom is almost in order, the sloping roof means that larger people have to struggle.
Unfortunately, the rear windows will not be handled – victims of the style over substance and children of a certain height must pay attention to the point of the door when entering.
On the positive side, the trunk is a very reasonable 385 liters, which means that it exceeds rivals including the Audi A3 Sportback, Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon and Ford Focus.
The car reached well enough, although the journey may be on the firm side for some, which was his magical carpet ride in view of one of the characteristic features of the original DS.
The DS 4 is also safe and earns a maximum of five stars in Euro -ncap -Crash tests.
Verdict
If you can live with your problems, the DS 4 is a classic, well -equipped and stylish alternative in a high -competitive sector.
