“Amore for Less” – has rarely been summarizing a new car as a new car as the Fiat Tipo 2016.
The brand new tipo range begins at £ 12,995 (£ 159 per month in the PCP world), and at the entry level it is really a lot of car for the money-a family bulkhead for Supermini money.
The last tipo was produced between 1988 and 1995 and won European car of the year in 1989, while Fiat has not entered Focus/Golf/Astra since 2007.
Fiat may have dusted an old name for his comeback, but the tipo is a completely fresh suggestion.
Beauty lies in the eye of the viewer, but the distinctive appearance of the tipo works for me with brave wrinkles, an aggressive frontend and a sexy rear spoiler.
It is clear that a lot of effort was initiated in styling. In fact, it is so slim that the air resistance coefficient is very low, 0.29 – and it shows. The slanted rear is attractive, but the property is probably even better proportional.
It also looks good on the inside in a very vaulted and conservative way. No retro -chic or no quirkness here – the tipo is a serious car in a gray way.
The front seats are comfortable, the dashboard is functional and clear, while the different cabin compartments add up to 12 liters of storage.
But what distinguishes the tipo is the amount of space – not just at the front, but in the rear. It is a triumph of the packaging and there is really space for five adults to sit comfortably in the car.
The trunk capacity is also best with a volume of 440 liters, while the station car has a solid 550 liters, which is also above in the class, as well as a low load threshold for additional convenience.
There are five engines available from a 95 hp 1.4-liter to a 1.6-liter multijet II of 120 hp and two diesel engines (95 hp 1.3 Multijet II and 120 PS 1, 6 Multijet II).
We only drove the top-of-the-range 1,6 diesel with a six-speed manual, although the new DDCT sub-dual clutch automatic transmission from FIAT is also available with this engine.
As with most diesel engines, it is a bit loud at first, but soon the tipo will sit down for its class, drives well and there is very few bodies in corners.
The engine has a lot of goals, although it is a bit breathless at the top of the range, but it is only the task for daily driving or driving on streets and highways.
For the recording, it can accelerate to 62 km/h in respectable 9.8 seconds (10.1 in the estate), a top speed of 124 miles per hour and it can be 76.3 mpg with low CO2 emissions of 98 g/km are.
It is also “Amore for Less” when you look at the specification -air conditioning, six airbags, that digital radio, chrome door handles, USB and Bluetooth connectivity with a steering wheel are among the kits that are available on the most basic car .
There are three equipment variant available. Another sign of the seriousness of the tipo is the fact that there is no pop and pop star like the 500. Here you have an entry level, a simple plus with a medium level and the tip of the Range lounge.
So far so good, but here is – as soon as you move the equipment variants and the engine area upwards, the tipo from “Amore for Less” becomes “Amore for the average”.
The top specification model that we drove costs £ 17,995, which is good, but not quite a bargain, especially if you climb some of the bad points of the car. For example, the 5-inch touchscreen is lean and some of the plastics used inside are a bit cheap. Nevertheless, Fiat came on a bitch with regard to the processing quality and the tipo is well put together.
At this price it is also in direct contradiction to people like Astra and Focus. So we suspect that the best option is to choose an entry -level model, add a few extras and buy your own Sat -Nav from Big Screen.
Judgment: The new tipo is a little boring for a Fiat, but it is competitive, unmistakable, spacious, economical and practical.
