Ford went into town with the start of his refreshing new Kuga -SUV.
A fleet of the cars took part in the #kugadventure – an epic 5,000 km long road trip that started in Athens and ended in Norway.
We were invited to Bein 13 in Finland and drove about 500 km from Oulu to Ivalo, directly in the Arctic circle. Our route led us under zero on a number of challenging roads at temperatures.
At our disposal there was a selection of Kugas with 1.5-liter petrol and 2.0-liter diesel engines.
Everyone was equipped with the optional intelligent all -wheel drive from Ford, which automatically adjusts the performance sent to each wheel and optimizes the handling and traction.
Finland’s combination of frozen and snow -covered streets was the perfect test for the AWD Kuga, and it was branted.
It is not a hardcore 4 × 4, but with the help of continental winter tires it is very capable and was able to give this important confidence factor under often treacherous conditions.
The Kuga has been with us since 2008, although the second generation for the first time appeared in 2012 and it is better than ever sold.
However, cars in the hot competitive SUV sector must be as competitive as possible. Therefore, Ford of the Kuga not only has a big facelifting in view of the latest technology.
It can be done with impressive competitors such as the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar as well as the new Peugeot 3008 and the Seat Ateca, so it has to be good.
The good news is that Ford did a great job with the new Kuga that is a car that is transformed.
The well -known Kuga profile is still shown, but the lines are softer and it has more modern, sportier.
At the front there is a new nose with Ford’s typical trapezoidal grille with new headlights and LED day running lights.
The rear tailgate was also redesigned. It now comprises new light clusters and brings it into harmony with other models in Fords SUV range – especially in the new Big Brother’s The Edge.
Inside, the dashboard design is clear and the new Sync3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen in the heart on the center console looks good and is easy to use.
The materials used have a feeling of quality, while the seats are comfortable, but whatever you can afford full leather seats is worth it.
In advance there is a good place with an excellent point of view (the panoramic load sliding roof also bathes the cabin in light), although the rear legroom is average in its class.
However, the new KUGA bang is also up to date.
The optional extras are now adaptive front light (which are very effective), a heated steering wheels (also very useful for temperatures of -5 degrees), semi -autonomous parking spaces and cross -traffic alarms that the drivers warns from a parking space Remonse to reverse oncoming oncoming leaders who get the drivers out of a parking space to reverse To be accommodating that reverse the drivers from the parking lot to the oncoming scope warns the drivers who bridge out of the parking lot, who get out of the drivers, who deal with the accommodation that get the drivers out, bring out the accommodating abutment. Traffic.
There are also active city tap that uses the brakes at a speed of up to 31 miles per hour if the system captures an upcoming collision.
In the meantime, Sync3 enables drivers to control systems including audio and navigation to connect to Android and Apple smartphones, and it can even recognize voice commands.
Despite the commanding driving position of the Kuga, it drives more like a slanted rear with a well -controlled body roll, while the ride is smooth and the larger engines are refined.
We have tried 180 hp versions of Fords 1.5-liter-ecoboost petrol and 2.0-liter diesel engines in ST-Line and titanium specifications.
Both units offer sufficient torque and decent economy (38.2 MPG and 54.3 MPG), while there is little to choose between the Slick manual and the automatic six-speed gearbox.
However, if the economy is the key, choose the new 120-hp diesel engine (offered with front-wheel drive), which only runs 115 g/km CO2 and is 64.2 MPG capable.
The Kuga trunk can swallow 456 liters of luggage (1,603 liters with below).
And of course the Kuga party trick is still intact – the rear tailgate can be opened and closed by simply waving your foot under the rear bumper.
Verdict: The new Ford Kuga of £ 20,845 is better than ever. Packed with the latest technology and with a fresh, sportier design, it is easy to drive the practical and a good price -performance ratio.
