Honda Civic

Is the 2017 Honda Civic as good as it looks? We flew to Spain to get a first drive of this important new entry in the competitive assembly rear sector …

When the original, legendary Honda Civic was launched in 1972, it measured only 3.55 m long and 1.50 m wide. Fast lead until 2017 and the brand new 10TH Generation Civic is another animal to one meter longer and 30 cm wider.

According to the recent citizenship in style, the new model now looks very grown up and is against impressive opposition, including the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra, so that it must be good.

Honda Civic

The dramatic styling of the new car certainly distinguishes longer, lower, lighter and wider than the outgoing model. Slim and sporty it is probably one of the most striking cars on the market.

A low roof line, a shaped profile, spoiler and other aerodynamic AIDS as well as the new company nose from Honda contribute to an aggressive attitude.

The cabin is spacious inside, while the new driving position is another obvious difference. The driver’s seat is now 35 mm lower than the previous generation and creates a sportier, involved feeling.

The visibility is good, although the back Luke and the big spoiler mean that your rear-view mirror outlook is more panoramic flow than full screen. In general, the cabin has a conservative feeling and there is a comprehensive use of black plastics.

There is plenty of space for the drivers and passengers at the front and back as well as a lot of storage rooms and cubby holes.

The new Civic has particularly impressive legroom in the rear, even if tall people at the front. However, we would say that the passengers of the back seat 6ft 2in or more could fight for Headroom – a victim of the slim roof line.

The good news will continue when you open the rear hatch. Inside there is a class management liter and a hidden underbody compartment (in all models, all S, Sport and Sports Plus) that offer additional capacities.

After all, the rear seats have 60:40, there is a low swell height and a wide boot opening. Work done.

Honda Civic

As always with Honda, it is what the eye does not see, that’s just as important. There are numerous technical developments, including two new VTEC turbo petrol engines with lively performance and an appropriate fuel consumption-a 1.0-liter three-cylinder and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder (a 1.6-liter diesel becomes Follow later in 2017).

The smaller of the two petrol engines produced 129 hp, emits a low 106 g/km CO2 and can claim a used 55.4MPG. This small engine effectively replaces the old 1.8, claims Honda, which is a remarkable performance.

In the meantime, the 1.5-liter unit of 182 HP can return 46.3 MPG and radiate 133 g/km CO2.

We tried both engines, each with a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT car list.

The powerful 1.0-liter engine is very capable and sophisticated for its size. Yes, there is the familiar thrum of a three-pot, or cruise on the highway.

However, if you prefer a little more performance and prefer a more relaxed drive, the 1.6-liter unit may be more according to your wishes.

The six-speed manual has a reasonable short throw for sporting shifts, while the automatic is one of the better CVTs. However, if you absorb it, especially in the smaller engine, it will turn a little eagerly. However, if you have a smooth driving style, the CVT is particularly rewarding in the 1.5-liter unit.

The price for the entry level of 1.0-liter in S-Trim £ 18.235 is from £ 27,50-liter-prestige CVT.

Honda expects a turnover of 70/30 in sales of 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter, while 60% of the buyers opt for the manual via the CVT.

Honda Civic

The new Honda Civic is going well. It is not a hot hat (you will have to wait for the hardcore type R version later in 2017), but it is spirited and can be pushed up to date on country roads if you wish.

The steering is light and direct while the journey is smooth. We haven’t driven it on British streets yet, but in our experience with a shorter distance on a rough road in Spain, we would say that the journey is on the firm side. However, the seats are comfortable.

The Honda Sensing Suite of Safety and Driver Aid Technologies with collision reduction systems such as emergency braking, lane die warning and Lane Heep Assist are standard. Honda is rightly confident that the new car will receive the full five-star rating if it is evaluated by independent crash testers Euro NCAP.

Stay a simple feeling with the technology in the cabin, the free feeling. The conventional dials were replaced by a TFT screen in the Binnacle in front of the driver, which can be adjusted in such a way that everything is displayed from speed and fuel consumption to satellite nave and media.

Honda Civic

The center console is dominated by a clear new 7-inch touchscreen display, on which you can access the latest version of Honda Connect with infotainment and connectivity systems that are integrated in both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It could not be said that Honda is exaggerated with personalization options, but a subtle adjustment is available. Customers have the selection of two optional outdyling surfaces – Black Line and Orange Line.

The black line and the orange line add a front chin spoiler, side skirts and the rear diffuser as well as mirror caps in black or orange. The orange line also contains inside accents in the dashboard in the same lively color.

A selection of 17-inch and 18-inch light metal wheel design can be specified, while a sporty tailgate spoiler is also available in body color or Tuscan orange.

Nevertheless, the standard black alloys that are standard look cool with the exception of the entry -level car and the car looks particularly good in blue, black or white.

And finally you choose a new bourgeois assembly line and you buy British because Honda’s huge work in Swindon is a global production for the car. For example, the US-bound Civics have been rolling off the production line since the end of 2016.

Verdict: The new Honda Civic is a class law. With unmistakable, radical styling and a lot of technology, it is worthwhile to drive, spacious and safe. A welcome addition to the hotly competitive family flash scene.
