We go with the noble CX-80 seven-seater SUV-Maz the new flagship …
If you need a large SUV that is able to wear seven people in appropriate comfort, there is already a pretty good choice.
The new Mazda CX-80 is a welcome addition to the cheaper end of the list, which includes Skoda Kodiaq, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail, Seat Tarraco, Peugeot E-5008 and KIA EV9.
Price of £ 49,670 provides known because it is essentially a stretched version of the smaller CX-60 SUV.
After almost five meters, the CX-80 is not a shrinking violet. It is slightly confused with a CX-60 from the front, but this profile with its huge wheelbase of 3,120 mm (longer than KIA EV9 and BMW X7) is something different and it is 26 mm larger.
The good news is that these dimensions lead to a third row of seats and gives the selection of layouts, so that the middle row can either have two “captain’s chairs” (six seats) or a bank with three/two seats. Both the bank and the individual seats fold and slide backwards and forward (x 120 mm) in order to obtain additional practicality.
As always, I tried the third row for the size, and as a 5’11 ”adult I can confirm that there is space as long as the middle row is pressed a little forward. The important snack is that it is only possible for passengers to sit one after the other
There is also a lot of loading space in the CX-80, with a reasonable 258 liters with all the places, 566 liters with the third row down and 1,971 liters with all seats.
Driven by the same engines as Mazda CX-60, there is a selection of plug-in hybrid or diesel, and all-wheel drive (afterwards) is standard.
The 2.5-liter petrol engine and the plug-in hybrid setup produce 323 hp (369 LB FT torque) for a 0–62 miles per hour of 6.8 seconds, while the 17.8 kWh battery for An official 38 miles electrical range and CO2 are good The emissions are only 35 g/km.
If you prefer diesel, the 3.3-liter six-cylinder pumps out with a 48-V mild hybrid system, which pumps out 251 hp (406 LB FT), well for an 8.4 second-62 mph /km).
Both engines are rated for towing 2,500 kg, but of course the diesel makes more sense when it comes to Grunz and Long-haul economy. Incidentally, a clever drive mode is available that improves the stability and mileage when towing. In addition, a “trailer hitch view” verbal camera camera makes it easier to align the car and “transparent view” helps to maneuver in tight parking spaces and city roads.
The CX-80 is full with the latest security and driver aid technology and reached a maximum of five stars for Euro NCAP tests. In fact, it was best referred to in the large SUV category in the class and narrowly beat the Audi Q6 e-tron.
All in all, the CX-80 has a first-class appearance in the entire cabin. And Mazda makes things different, so there is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central display, but the latter is not a touchscreen. The control takes place via a rotary switch in the center console or Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa, which is integrated and can control apps with music, air conditioning systems, navigation and third-party providers such as Spotify. The wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard.
On the street, the Mazda CX-80 does not feel more important than the CX-60, while the visibility is decent and the 360-degree camera is more difficult (the distant back when maneuvering).
For me, the seating position at the lowest environment is still too high for me, but that’s not unusual.
The journey is on the firm side, which is not supported by the large 20-inch wheels on the higher models. Probably best to stick to the 18-inch wheels on the exclusive entry-level wheels when comfort is a priority.
It goes well for such a large SUV and feels planted while the body is slim in faster corners. The steering is well weighted and reaction quickly, while a good grip gives you your trust.
Ultimately, your CX-80 experience is probably determined by your choice of drive train.
The big turbodiesel is a joy. It is not at the top with an equivalent six-cylinder BMW unit, it is smooth, sounds the part and is blessed with much low grunt.
During my test, I have an average of 42 MPG with a high of 46 MPG, which is not bad for a car of this size. With a little restraint, the alleged 49.6 MPG can be accessible on a steady run.
The plug-in hybrid is a mixed bag. You have to take it very easily to reach almost 38 miles of EV range (which is modest, for example, compared to 62 miles from Kodiaq).
As soon as the juice leaves you (or put your foot down), the petrol engine begins. The transition is not always the smoothest and the four -cylinder unit is on the rough side when pushing.
That means it is powerful enough, but the economy will drop below 40 MPG when the battery is drained, which is not ideal on a longer trip. In the case of shorter runs, theoretically possible is possible at 100 MPG (up to 176.6 MPG).
Oddly enough, the PHEV feels easier and more agile, although it is heavier than the diesel, while the slick-for-gear automatic automatic system is exactly the task in both models.
A sport drive mode that strengthens the gas reaction and processing is available with both engines, but standard normally offers the best balance between performance and economy.
As always, it is with a large SUV from its best cruise and picks up the miles comfortably.
Verdict: The Big Mazda CX-80 is a welcome addition to the SUV SUV category with seven-seat. It is a premium car at a reasonable price.
