Why the latest version of the Mazda MX-5 will probably remain the world’s most popular roadster in the coming years.
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical when I saw the fourth generation of Mazda MX-5 for the first time. Had it lost part of his cheeky charm? Was it a bit female? How could it be better than the previous model?
Fortunately, my worries were in the moments in which they came near the new car near the new car.
And I should have an interest from the start-I have a 55-plate MX-5 and it is still a constant source of pleasure.
The new MX-5 looks something cat than the a little more butched car of the third generation, but is pretty in a reserved way.
The more you examine the lines and your proportions, the easier it is to understand why it is just the first car that has won both the World Car of the Year and the World Car Design of the Year Awards.
Slide behind the steering wheel and the new MX-5 is one of these cars that feels right immediately. The winning formula has not been changed.
Of course, it also offers the joys of soft top car driving and I have no reason to assume that it is not as reliable as its ancestors, which makes it a practical everyday car.
There is a selection of two powerful petrol engines, 1.5 and 2.0 liter and both are connected to a slick-alternating manual transmission.
After 8.3 seconds, the 129 hp 1.5-liter 1.5 liter is one second slower up to 62 miles per hour than the 161 hp 2.0-liter, and according to official figures you can 47.1 and 40 , 9 mpg are able.
The 2.0-liter value definitely feels more powerful and sounds, but the reality is that the 1.5-liter engine is more than enough for most, especially since the MX-5 was on diet and now less as a ton weighs.
The fact is that the new Mazda for the previous model improves in every respect. The gearbox is now easier and fancier, the cabin is more modern and is packed with everything you can expect in a modern car, including a 7 -inch color display, dab and complete connectivity, speed control and LED day running light.
The MX-5 is not perfect. The luggage compartment is still a bonus, so that two large suitcases are definitely out of the question. The roof is still manually (although they are just as easy and easy to use), while some visibility can be a challenge with the roof upwards. But overall it is a star car and it is as worthwhile to drive as always.
The new Mazda MX-5 series begins at £ 19,245 and there are five equipment variant, SE-L, SE-L NAV, Sport and Sport NAV.
Verdict: The best thing was getting better. The new Mazda MX-5 is as close to a perfect sports car as possible-and here is, it is also practical and great!
