Mazda’s classic focus/Astra Challenger has only been with us since 2014, but it has just been revised to get it up to date.
The changes to the best -selling car worldwide (five million sales and counts) in Mazda are subtle.
In fact, they would have difficulty noticing from the outside. Inside, the switch from a conventional handbrake to an electronic switch is the most obvious change.
Personally, I prefer the proper handbrake for electronic switches (even if it releases space in the center console), but it continues …
The reality is that there is a lot going on. For example, the Mazda3 2017, which is previously available as a assembly line and fastback, marks the world debut of the G-Vectoring Control (GVC). It varies the engine output to optimize the load on every wheel and thus improve handling and comfort.
There is also something that is referred to as natural sound smooth (NSS), which is intended to refine the diesel engines offered.
Technological highlights include an improved head-up display with full color and now adaptive LED headlights are available.
If you look very careful in front of the car, you will find that it is a little slippery with a revised radiator grille, the new fog housing with fog and popped door mirrors, now with all -round indicators, while slanted rear versions receive a redesigned rear bumper .
Inside there are “higher quality” switch panels and door handles, revised dashboard cladding and a new leather steering wheel design.
After all, the Mazda3 is now available in eight colors, including the Trend Machine Gray Mica, which debut at the New York automotive exhibition 2016 on the new MX-5 RF and Ewig Blue Mica.
So more evolution as a revolution, but then not much was wrong by car.
Otherwise, the 3 is similar, which is not a bad thing, because it is a serious candidate for its more ordinary opposition-not only in appearance, but also the dynamics.
Engine options are as before. Select between a 2.0-liter petrol of 118 hp or a 2.0-liter petrol engine (103 hp) or a 2.2-liter diesel (2.5-liter liter) and then select one The two Super-Slick-Sech-Gang Gearbox automatic or manually.
If you are looking for zero -road tax, economy and low emissions, go for the smaller diesel, but do not expect thrills. It is smooth and capable of an impressive 74MPG with a CO2 number of only 99 g/km.
But maybe it is the lower 2.0-liter petrol unit that offers the best mix of performance, economy and refinement.
With a time of 0-62 miles per hour of 8.9 seconds (10.4 for the automatic), a top speed of 121 miles per hour, a stressed economy of 55.4 MPG (50.4 car) and low C02- Emissions of 119 g/km tick this version of the 3 the right box.
The Mazda3 is as comfortable as always and offers a sitting position with a low rope. It is also fun to drive with a firm, sporty feeling.
Inside, it feels noble and well built with plenty of space, although it is a little tighter on the back, especially for larger passengers, thanks to the curved roof line.
The trunk is a decent 364 liter in the assembly line (1263 with the rear seats down) or 419 liters for the Fastback.
The infotainment system is one of the best out there and it is great to see that Mazda is adhering to the additional Rotary controller near the gear selector.
The range begins at £ 17,595 and rises to 24,195 GBP, so the Mazda3 2017 is still a strong contender in a strongly competitive market. Clearly designed, well equipped and with a noble interior, it is geared towards the driver as always. One of the best was getting better.
