We examine the latest member of the Mini-FamilieDen fifth-door, full-electric aceman compact crossover …
The ACEMAN effectively replaces the Mini Clubman estate and closes the gap between the Cooper Fließheck and the Countryman SUV.
The Aceman looks like an agricultural compatriot who has a strong impact on his big brother with blocked styling and short overhangs. It also gets angular lighting units and an octagonal grille.
The Aceman is initially built in China, which initially pursues British production, and is also the first mini to only be sold as EV.
It is also not only a few rivals, with people like the Ford Puma Gen-E, Hyundai Kona Electric, Alfa Romeo Junior, Kia Niro EV, Jeep Avenger, Volvo Ex30 and the Vauxhall Mokka Electric.
The Aceman is available from £ 31,220 in three flavors – E, SE and John Cooper Works (JCW). The entry level E receives a 42.5 kWh battery and an electric motor of 181 hp, which is good for a stressed 192 mile range and a time of 7.9 seconds 0-62 miles per hour.
The SE benefits from a 54.2 kWh battery and a stronger 215-horsepower-e engine. It is faster at 62 km / h with a time of 7.1 seconds, while the range is up to 252 miles with a full load.
The Sport JCW version also receives the 54.2 kWh battery and a meaty 255 hp engine, which leads to a sprint time of 0-62 miles per hour of only 6.4 seconds.
Fast charging speeds for SE and JCW at 70 kW for E and 95 kW. Therefore, a 10-80% load in versions S and JCW only takes 29 minutes and 31 minutes.
How is the interior? Well, very similar to The Cooper and Countryman, which means that it is quite minimalistic compared to minis of the previous generation.
It was built around Mini’s unique circular Central -Oled touchscreen and is largely free, but luckily a number of tipping switches were preserved.
There is no instrument cluster of the driver, but at least all versions are equipped with a head-up display. Therefore, they are not forced to look at the central screen in order to display important essential essentials such as speed.
There are three equipment variant (classic, exclusive and sport) – each of your own topic. All receive a 2D -knitted textile cladding on the dashboard.
The premium quality of the cabin has always been a mini strength. Apart from the gentle-synthetic leather seats, I would say that the new model is not quite as noble, with its mixture of rough-structured “knitted” fabric made of recycled materials and scratchy plastic surfaces underneath.
The cabin space in the back is an enormous improvement of the basic Mini Cooper with just enough space to get an adult to sit behind another adult. However, there is a luggage capacity of only 300 liters in the trunk, which could be a challenge for family trips.
Minis are known for their driving experience, and the Aceman EV is not disappointed. I drove the E and SE versions and there is a fantastic performance thanks to the immediate torque, while sharp, excellent grip and almost no body slimmer feels to run on rails.
This means that some can find the journey on the stiff side, and the handling can be fidgety on curvy, fast road sections. So hold on.
In the worst case, it feels as if they are being shielded in the cabin, but mostly it is a classic mini driving dynamics.
If the seating position might be a little lower (like the Cooper), would the overall experience be improved?
I suspect that the owners will probably remain with his light steering feeling and moderate acceleration in the standard core mode, but it is fun to move it to Go Kart for short bursts, with his heavier steering and the sharper gas reaction.
To be honest, there is not much to choose between E and SE on the street. If at all, the lighter E (smaller battery) is a little nimble, although there are fewer horses.
In contrast to many EVs, the brakes are progressive, while the regenerative system works well with a good selection of levels. The traction is also surprisingly good when you consider that the Aceman is front -wheel drive.
In real driving, we expect the Aceman E to manage around 160 miles depending on the weather, driving style and terrain and the SE to 200 miles. When driving, however, the range should be closer to the official WLTP numbers.
Verdict: The Mini Aceman EV crossover is a uniquely designed, safe, really funny and technology filled and is a solid and practical step from the three-door cooper and offers a little more space and reasonable reach for everyday trips.
