Mini Cooper Electric

We get to the tax of the next generation of pure electric mini slanted hinge …

As the saying says, you are waiting for a bus forever and two come with you at the same time. Minis are a bit like that.

After a lean time on the start front, the brand new mini-aceman crossover and the introduction of the third generation mini-country SUV has already found the introduction of the third generation mini-country SUV.

Now there is the topic of this street test and the fifth generation mini-hatch. Or to be precise, the Mini Cooper, as it is now known.

So far there are two versions on a new EV platform – Cooper E and SE.

Mini Cooper Electric

The entry-level cooper E 30,000 GBP receives a 40.7 kW battery that is good for 190 miles in official tests. The performance is 187 hp, which means that it is capable of 7.3 seconds from 0 to 62 miles per hour at a quick time.

Increased to a Cooper SE (from 34,500 GBP) and the battery capacity for a range of up to 250 miles to 54.2 kWh. His 215 PSST company can sprint to 62 miles per hour in even faster 6.7 seconds.

It is also important that E and SE can be charged at 75 kW or 95 kW, which means that charging of 10 to 80% takes about 30 minutes.

Like the rest of the new mini family, the cooper ensures a more minimalist look. There is no chrome cladding, but there is still this iconic body shape with the bikes that have been pushed to the corners, as well as brand circle -shaped headlights.

The lights can be adjusted in front of the back so that customers can choose between three different light signatures, including the familiar trade union flag option.

It is also paired inside, and now the heart is the first circular OLED display in the world.

The breathtaking touchscreen serves as an instrument cluster and on board infotainment hub with a diameter of 9.4 inches. In the upper half, vehicle information such as speed and battery status is displayed, using the lower area for navigation, media, telephone and climate.

To be honest, it is a little overwhelming at first because it is a lot going on there, but we assume that it makes sense after about a week of possession. Fortunately, Mini has retained a few signature tilt switch under the touchscreen.

The party trick of the display is a number of different “experience” modes that change the appearance of the infotainment system and the driving characteristics of the car.

The standard mode “experience” is called the core of the others are green, go-kart, personally, alive, timeless and compensate. Whenever you change the mode, there is a corresponding animation and a jingle that is played. You will find either these quirky or irritators.

There are three equipment variant (classic, exclusive and sport) – each of your own topic. Classic’s highlights include 2D -knitted textile dashboard cover and black synthetic leather sports places. Exclusive receives a two-color Houndholtooth pattern for its knitted textile cladding on the dashboard rescue and perforated sports seats, while sports provides multicolored knitted textile and black synthetic leather with red.

The premium quality of the cabin has always been a mini strength. With the exception of the gentle-synthetic leather seats, the new model would not be quite as noble, with its mixture of rough, structured ‘knitted’ fabric made of recycled material.

There is also the small matter of the back seat and the trunk. The same old story here, because although it is a little longer, the new mini is still tight in the back, while the luggage compartment is modest 200 liters and increases to 800 liters, with the rear seats folded.

That means it is well equipped. Each Mini Cooper has an adaptive speed control, a reversing camera, ambient lighting and a heated steering wheel.

Minis are known for your go-kart driver experience, and the EV version is not disappointed. Thanks to all the immediate torque, there is a fantastic performance, while sharp, excellent grip and almost no body slimmer feel like running on rails.

This means that some can find the journey on the stiff side, and handling can become fidgety if they push too far.

I suspect that the owners will probably remain in the standard core mode with his light feeling of steering and the moderate gas reaction, but it is fun to move it to Go Kart for short bursts, with his heavier steering, a faster downwick and stricter gas reaction.

To be honest, there is no huge gap between E and SE on the street. If at all, the lighter E (smaller battery) is a little nimble, although fewer horses have more horses. Of course, the E and SE are particularly easy to drive in the city.

In contrast to many EVs, the brakes are progressive, while the regenerative system works well with a good selection of levels.

It always seems unfair to criticize street and wind noises when checking an EV, since it obviously becomes more noticeable, but it was higher than expected – especially on poorer streets.

We drove both models during an entertaining, sunny day in the Cotswolds in a row. In real driving, we expect Cooper E, depending on the weather and location, around 160 miles and the SE to 200 miles. And if you mainly drive in urban areas, your area should be closer to the official WLTP numbers.

Overall, the retro Cool New Cooper is not perfect, but in many ways it is everything you hope for an electric mini.

Verdict: The brand new, full-electric mini-coop is a worthy descendant of the iconic original. Yes, it is much bigger, but it still seeps the character, conjures up a big smile on your face and it’s full of the latest technology. Work done.
