Omoda E5 Review

We test the brand new, all-electric omoda E5 family SUV …

Omoda is a new brand in Great Britain and belongs to Chery, one of the largest car manufacturers in China.

The Omoda 5 is a medium-sized family SUV that is either available with a 1.6-liter petrol engine or an EV (switched off Omoda E5).

The former is set up as a rival of the Kia Sportage, MG HS and Nissan Qashqai. From only £ 25,235 it represents a lot of car for the money.

My focus here is on the electrical version (brands E5), which is evaluated from a very competitive £ 33,055 and has a stressed range of 257 miles.

The Omoda E5, like the Volkswagen ID.3, Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV, has the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS Ev.

The Omoda 5 siblings can be distinguished by their crickets. The E5 are nicely smoothed, while the 5 have a prominent network.

Apart from that, it is a high -ranking SUV that looks like a Qashqai. In fact, it is about as big.

There are two equipment variant – comfort and noble. Inside, the Omoda E5 receives a 12.25-inch infotainment system in addition to a high-resolution instrument cluster display with essential driving information.

It works well enough, but as with many competitors, the central touchscreen and not enough physical keys are far too much to do.

Other highlights are a heated, synthetic leather-multifunction steering wheel, six-way driver seat and integrated headrests by default.

Noble variants include Faux leather sports with a four-way setting for the passenger. All models receive a Sony audio system with eight speakers, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 50-W wireless charger that is conveniently positioned in the center console.

The Suite of the standard features for security and driving support includes the assist change, the warning and prevention of traces, the detection of spots, the forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, rear traffic brake and the open warning.

It is even more important that the Omoda E5 is driven by an electric motor of 150 kW and a 61 kWh-byD blade battery, and thanks to a relatively slim curb weight of 1,710 kg (for an EV) it will be 0-62 mph in 7.2 take seconds.

The fuel efficiency is 3.8 miles/kWh, which should offer a real range of 234 miles. I would have to drive it for a week or something to find out myself, but it certainly seems realistic after a day of driving on mixed streets.

While the fastest loading speed is only 80 kW on a fast charger, this is still sufficient for 28-minute charging of 30 to 80% in a reasonable 28 minutes. However, the charging port is in the nose, which makes life easy for public chargers.

The first thing I noticed when entering the Omoda E5 is that the seating position is on the high side for me. As a result, visibility is quite good and even if it is limited (the chunky rear columns and a small hatch window), there are cameras and sensors that help you to make maneuvering easier.

Soft-touch surfaces and the general quality of the materials in the cabin are good. The space for rear passengers is sufficient, but the floor is high, so it is not the most natural seating position. The luggage capacity is a reasonable 380 liters and expanded to 1,075 liters, with the rear seats being turned over.

And it is the trunk that one of the biggest surprises of the E5 housed-a spare wheel in full size for this additional soul peace and in an electric vehicle in which every kilo counts!

The journey is on the festival on the street. You can feel a lot of lumps and bumps on the street, and on bad surfaces it is possible to push around in the cabin. On the positive side, Body Lean is well controlled in demanding corners.

I mainly drove it in the rain, and although the handle is generally good, it is easy to turn the front wheels when you are too heavy with your right foot when you pull yourself away from crossings. Oh, and it’s quick without being stupid like some EVs.

At higher speeds, wind and street noise, especially around the door levels, are more noticeable. Apart from that, it is as clever as any other EV.

The steering is quite precise and there are two weight settings. Braking regeneration becomes better (low, medium or high) and it is possible to adapt the brake sensitivity (high or low).

The only problem is that all of these settings are set over the middle touchscreen. For me, for example, steering wheel paddles to set the brake rain would be a stroke of luck.

There are three driving modes (ECO, normal and sport). Sport is fine for short outbreaks, but they will probably remain normal because it is easier and is a good balance between strength and efficiency.

Overall, it is unlikely that the Omoda E5 will put a smile on her face, but it is a perfect respectable EV for driving.

After all, the Omoda E5 is certainly equipped because you will receive a tempting guarantee of seven years and 100,000 miles as well as an eight -year guarantee of 100,000 miles for the main battery.

Verdict: The Omoda E5 is a decent debut car from a new brand to Great Britain and definitely worth a test drive. Well equipped, safe, comfortable to drive and with a decent real range, the E5 is a good price-performance ratio and has a generous guarantee of seven years.
