Nowadays we have the choice when it comes to hot hates.
Admittedly, some are warm as hot, but not everyone wants to drive around in an overgrown go-kart.
The Ford Focus RS and Honda Civic Type R occupy the Hardcore end of the spectrum, while the Golf R and Audi RS3 are a bit adult, but if you are looking for something more reserved, the Peugeot 308 GTI should definitely be on your shortlist .
The 308 sporty sporty and has a fine family tree because it was no less developed by Peugeot Sport. And remember that Peugot knows something about this sector – the Peugeot 205 GTI of the 1980s is one of the legendary hot hatches.
The 308-GTI can be designed attractively and can be differentiated from an exclusive black cooler, sexy red brake caliper, 19-inch alloys, some discrete Peugeot sports and GTI badges and a 11 mm posture from its regular stable data.
Two versions are available (both five-door)-It is only a matter of whether you want the 250 hp or 270 hp four-cylinder engine.
My test car was the more powerful of the two. It cost £ 28,890 and came with supportive sports seats, leather and alcantra pads and a tiny steering wheel (only measured 35 x 32 cm).
The cockpit design has a unique Peugeot feeling. The increased instrument Binnacle has noble and unmistakable and has a slight back of retro-looking counts, while the disorder is dominated by an 8-inch touchscreen.
Red pipelines on the dashboard, door panels and floor mats and an aluminum tilter complete the sporty look.
Press the start button and the 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine, which until recently the RCZ R Coupé (God rests his soul) and with a beautiful growl.
Purists point out that it is artificially improved via the loudspeakers – all I know is that it is a soundtrack that I would never tire of.
It is a sweet and deceptively powerful unit that can drive the GTI 270 to 62 km / h in six seconds and a top speed of 155 km / h.
In combination with a six-speed manual transmission and Torsen Limited Slip Differential, progress is as fast or relaxed as you want.
There are sacks with a handle in dry conditions, but caution should be treated in the wet, where the front wheels easily fight for traction while the brakes offer a serious stop force.
The car is beautifully decorated. A little firmer than half pastries is still comfortable, but quickly and totally planted.
Performance is one thing, but the GTI is also economical if you can resist the temptation to plant your right foot. Theoretically, 47.1 MPG is possible, although in the real world it is probably closer to 35-40 MPG, while the CO2 levels are 139 g/km.
Sport mode deserves a mention. Press the button and the dials turn an angry red, the vehicles and the exhaust grade is even more intoxicating.
The GTI 270 may not be as fast as the focus RS or as hardcore as a citizen type -R, but it is a car that can inspire a minute and can then deal with the school run.
Verdict: The 308 GTI of Peugeot Sport is a stylish, entertaining, comfortable and practical alternative hot hatch.
