We test the pioneering new version of the Range Rover Evoque, which was charged as the “world’s first luxury compact -SUV -Cabrio”.
The Evoque, launched in 2011, is Land Rovers at the fastest vehicle of all time and more than half a million rolled off the Halewood production line.
Now the Evoque Cabrio has been launched, which was perfectly taken on the use of the boom in luxurious SUVs and the Great Britain’s love relationship with soft tops, since in Great Britain, surprisingly, more convertibles are sold in Great Britain than in any other country in Europe.
Not everyone is convinced of the concept of the Evoque Cabriolos. Some say that the slices of the roof spoiled the good appearance of the car, others wonder if there is a market for the car at all, while some Land Rover mock.
Land Rover should choose to start the new Evoque convertible in the Swish Skigebiet of Courzevel. The French Alps not only offered a breathtaking backdrop, but also gave us the opportunity to drive the car on a mixture of routes, including a series of off-road challenges in the snow.
The fact is that the Evoque convertible is not just a looker, but 4 × 4 in the best tradition of Land Rover.
It may not have the characteristic roof line of the standard Evoque, but the convertible works for me with the top-up or below. The fully automatic roof dogs in 18 seconds and can be raised in 21 seconds at speeds of up to 30 km / h.
Land Rover also did a good job when it comes to refinement. There is enough acoustic insulation with the roof to make it comparable to the regular evoque.
Sink the roof and the cabin is surprisingly well protected. It is quite possible to have a conversation with highway speeds, and the rear wind defector isolates excellent occupants from buffeting.
There is also no roll-over bar that has the lines of the car spoiled by Evoque Cabrio, they create a survival room for inmates ”.
Land Rover not only cut off the roof, but additional tension to stiffen the chassis in such a way that it still drives well and is just as capable as the regular evoque.
This was perfectly demonstrated during a special off-road course. We were diagonally balanced on two wheels on an uneven obstacle. We were encouraged to open the doors and the trunk, and of course they opened with ease.
Driven by Jaguar Land Rovers Efficient new 2.0-liter engine turbo diesel (a petrol version is also available) and coupled with a slick-nine-speed automatic transmission, the Evoque convertible can 62 miles in 10.3 seconds Hour reached and around 121 mph.
The diesel is smooth and clever enough when it comes to a little vocals when you accelerate at low speed.
The disadvantage of the additional strengthening of the car is that it weighs 250 kg more like a regular evoque, which slightly knocks on performance and the economy. It can be 49.6 MPG for recording and spends a reasonable 149 g/km CO2.
Fortunately, the ability of the Evoque Cabriolios was not dulled in any way. We drove it through a rocky forest route, on a ski slope, in amazing sideways angles and steep snow -covered graduates and it made everything with ease. Like all Landrover and Range Rovers, the Evoque convertible is one of the rare vehicles in which their trust in its skills is rarely questioned.
The prescription control in the all-terrain is particularly good-one art off-road speed control (between 1-19 miles per hour). Everything you have to do must be controlled. While the hill descent is almost never before, you automatically apply the brakes to each wheel independently to manage your descent downhill.
There is also calf -sensing, so that the car can drive up to a depth of 50 cm through water, invaluable when the streets are flooded.
Inside, the Evoque Cabrio is a comfortable, first-class place and it is equipped with the new infotainment system from Jaguar Land Rover, which offers a 10.2-inch touchscreen with smartphone-like gestures with smartphone and pinch-to-zoom.
Unfortunately, the hood mechanism robbed the back of a small room, so that only two seats are separated from one armrest. Adults can sit in the back, but it’s cozy.
There is also less space for luggage in the boot in the boot 251-liter trunk (of 420 liters in the standard EVoque), although you can choose a ski break if you want to wear longer objects.
The Evoque drop-top top range begins at 47,500 GBP, although our test car, a HSE Dynamic Lux, has weighed at 51,700 GBP.
Verdict: A new niche was created with the Evoque Cabrio, which not only pulsates through its veins through its veins, but a practical, funny and very capable off-roader with Land Rover-DNA. It may not be avalanche, but you expect other manufacturers to chop the roofs of their SUVs – this trend is here to stay.
