Renault Twingo GT Review

The Renault Twingo was the city car, which was different at the start in 2014.

With its rear engine, its sweet appearance and its spacious interior, it has been a quirky choice since then. So far, however, VA VA Voom is missing.

The Twingo GT is Renault’s attempt to fix this situation and it is almost successful. The addition of a coordinated version of the 998cc three-cylinder engine is warm as hot and offers it an additional 20 hp (from 89 to 109).

Apparently Renault Sport could not be able to squeeze a larger engine under the rear parcel shelf, so that there was no option than extracting as much electricity as possible from the existing unit. The only other alternative was to sacrifice the Renault 5 Turbo style back seat, which would have brought the city car registration information from Twingo into the roof.

The Power boost may not sound much, but the GT immediately feels faster, accelerates to 62 miles per hour in 9.6 seconds and is 113 km / h. The Turbo boost sounds much more sporty than its regular stable mates and triggers the REV -LIMITER at around 2,000 rpm when they turn through the gears.

This means that the GT is definitely more fun – not only in a straight line, but from the point of view of handling. It feels more planted, although some find the journey on the firm side a little.

Renault Sport not only increased the horses – the suspension, the steering and equipment conditions have also been optimized, while the driving height is 20 mm lower.

The Twingo GT also looks different. There is a selection of four colors, including Lunaire Gray, Profond Black and Glacier White, but we would choose Piment Orange in combination with orange disguise details in the cabin, in the Renault Sport-Baded door thresholds and in aluminum pedals.

Perhaps the easiest way to distinguish the GT is the air intake on the left rear wing, two exhaust systems and cheaper decal pictures.

Apart from its improved performance and sharper handling, the GT benefits from all the advantages of the more basic car.

There is surprisingly plenty of space for adults in front and back – it is also comfortable, well equipped and fully connected.

The boot shelf is slightly higher than most of its competitors because the engine is divided underneath, but there is still room for purchases or a few weekends.

However, do not expect a cheeky room in Stowaway under the bonnet, as you can traditionally expect in vehicles with rear engine-there is no place there, but only access to the battery, coolant and windshield reserves.

The rear seats fold flat 50/50 and the passenger seat also folds for additional luggage compartment. The rest of the interior is nicely laid out and well compiled with a few funky details, which repeats the exterior.

The party trick of the Twingo is also intact – it remains one of the most maneuvering city cars on the market with a remarkable turning circle of 8.59 meters.

The fuel consumption is also good if you can resist the temptation to plant your right foot. It can be 54MPG capable, while the CO2 emissions are pretty low 115 g/km.

The GT is against a strong competition to do so-especially the VW-up!

The Twingo GT is from 14,085 GBP and is a big improvement for the regular car. Funky, entertaining to be, noble and well equipped. It is also supported by Renault’s four-year/100,000-mile guarantee and four-year-old roadside.
