It is difficult for you to find a real estate car that can easily drive for hundreds of miles, drags a caravan, transports a bookshelf and a seriously challenging terrain. The Subaru outback is such a vehicle.
It is difficult to know where the outback, which has been with us since 2015, is supposed to start but is still a hidden jewel.
I certainly did not need to convince his off-road capabilities. I was recently invited to a Subaru daily day, on which I was allowed to drive the 4 × 4 range on a special course with deep mud, steep hills, rivers and lakes.
The outback took everything in its step, which is phenomenal for a legacy and proof of the proven symmetrical all -wheel drive system of the Japanese company.
And here is something that she probably hasn’t sold more than 15 million 4 × 4 vehicles since 1972, which makes it one of the world’s largest manufacturers of off-roaders.
As you would expect from an estate, a lot of space rises to 1,848 in the trunk (559 liters), with the rear seats folded together. For this reason, my trip to Ikea was no problem buying a Billy bookshelf. The cabin is also spacious, with plenty of space for adults at the front and back.
Subaru has also worked hard to strengthen the level of comfort and quality, although it is still fulfilling on the side of durability. It would stretch to say that the outback is plush, but it is much more classic than Subarus of old with more soft plastic and leather seats.
The outback is only available in the premium equipment of the specification, which means that it is generously equipped with automatic LED headlights and headlights, active torque vector, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, electronically adjustable driver’s seat and privacy glass.
There is also a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, audio, smartphone connectivity and parking camera with a rear view. It is not the best system out there, but it is completely usable and does the work.
Perhaps more important is that the outback is also safe. A maximum of five stars were awarded in the Euro NCAP crash tests and were particularly good in the key areas of protection protection for adults (85%) and the protection of children in residents (87%).
This high security assessment is partly due to the visual avoidance of Subars visual avoidance (available in lineartronic cars), which use the stereo camera technology to monitor the street and the process for potential dangers. I tried it under controlled conditions and it is very effective and stops the car automatically at lower speeds. The adaptive speed control (it holds a distance between you and the vehicle) and the land departure warning is also available.
The outback is available with two engines, a 2.5-liter petrol engine, which develops 175 hp and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel of 150 hp and 150 hp. The diesel is available either with a 6-speed manual transmission or a lineartronic CVT automatic transmission, while the gasoline can only be bought with the car box.
Price from £ 32,995 to £ 34,995, I tested the diesel with a lineartronic transmission. Many CVTS (continuously variable transmission) tend to go over Rev, but luckily the box of the outback is held back, unless the gas is soil. And so it is not necessary because the Punchy Boxer Diesel has a lot of goals and is remarkably refined, which means that it is a relaxed motorway cruiser.
In addition, the diesel is quite economical, especially for a permanent all -wheel drive. The manual is good for up to 50.4MPG, while the linearttrone can return 46.3 MPG. And during my week with the outback, I had an average of 40 MPG, which is quite impressive in view of the wide area of driving.
For recording, the outback can reach 62 miles per hour from the stand still in 9.7 seconds (manual diesel), 9.9 (car diesel) and 10.2 (auto gasoline), while the CO2 emissions between 145 and 161 l/km.
The outback also processes surprisingly well with controlled body role and of course a lot of traction.
The car is also evaluated with 2,000 kg (diesel 1,800 kg), which includes another box for many potential buyers.
Subaru has a good reputation for reliability, but only to exchange ideas in peace, the outback has a five-year/100,000 mile guarantee and a three-year coverage protection in the UK. In fact, Subaru claims that 99.3% of all cars in the UK are still on the road after 10 years.
The outback is against some good competitors in the increasingly competitive, robust real estate sector, including the Volvo V90 Cross Country, Skoda Octavia Scout and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack. And although it can be exceeded in some areas-for example infotainment-the outback is a great all-rounder and definitely the most capable off-road.
Verdict: The Subaru outback is a revelation. A remarkably versatile package, it is safe, competitive and should see reliable service for years.
