When it started in 2012, the Tesla Model S shock waves sent through the auto industry. It not only looked good, but also went well and its software (the extended driver assistant functions included, which can be autonomous in the future) could be updated over the air.
Tesla’s battery technology was also ahead of its time, which means that it had a greater reach and was able to charge faster than all other electric vehicles.
Model S has now been accompanied by the X SUV model, whereby the inexpensive model 3 is followed. Tesla plans to sell 500,000 cars a year by 2020.
I will put my cards on the table. I am a huge model s fan, but even I had to be convinced of the X Model -a car that is promoted as a “safest, fastest and capable sports service program in history”.
Count the first impressions, and when you see a model X in the metal for the first time, it is clear that it is a car like no other. It is bigger than you may think (similar to a BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport or Audi Q7), it is clearly aerodynamic, but also surprisingly spacious.
Then there are these “Falcon wings” tail doors that are not just a party trick. Access to the rear of the car is not only impressive, but also clever. Thanks to the sensors, the double -sized doors open up safely, whereby only 30 cm of space is required on the side of the vehicle and enables to park in tight spots. They have to be seen to be believed.
But it is not just the doors and the space inside – what differentiates the model X from the opposition is its clever packaging. Seats contoured with three lines, a front and rear trunk and space under the seats of the second row, which means that there is enough space for people, luggage and other bulky objects. It also has a futuristic, luxurious feeling.
It is possible to donate the car with five, six or even seven seats. However, the third row is intended for children or small people unless the second row of seats is pressed forward.
And what about the stunning windshield? If you thought that the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso had a whopper, then think about it again. The word “panoramic view” is not the justice of the model X. To be honest, it is one of the lightest and airy huts that you will ever experience.
The rest of the interior is not unlike like that in front of it in front of the model S, which is not a bad thing. The cockpit is minimalistic and is dominated by a huge 17-inch tablet in the center console. This is also the nerve center of the car. Did you know that a route can now be planned for you and add a loading stop if necessary – and there will even be a live note whether the charging bays are full or not?
The model X also offers 2268 kg towing capacity, which is sufficient for most small caravans and fans, which is the first electric car with everything that approaches this type of skills.
I tested the X 90D model, which costs from £ 89,300, although the final costs of the car that I drove (with optional extras), was an £ 104,730.
The 90D (D for dual electromotors) has 90 kWh battery flow. There are also 75 and 100 kWh versions with ranges that vary from 290 to 336 miles and outperform with the 100d.
With all -wheel drive and an equivalent output of the electric motors (one front, one back) of 682 hp such as a 682 hp, my model X was able to sprint to a top speed of 155 km / h in a blister construction of 3.7 seconds.
The first thing you notice about the X model is that the driver’s seat is quite high (presumably because there are batteries below), but you will soon get used to the position and you will be amazed at the goldfish shell-like visibility.
Dive the accelerator pedal and you are in virtual silence, just a vague wash from the electric motors. However, if you are traveling faster, there is a lot of wind and street noise (over some surfaces). As with most electric cars, however, it is that it is quieter overall, but because there is no engine noise, other noises are more obvious!
The overtaking is contagious and I don’t think the novelty would ever decrease, but the model X is also a relaxed, comfortable cruiser. However, take your foot from the accelerator pedal, and the decline in speed can be very profound depending on the regenerative brake settings. It is therefore best to experiment.
With 2.4 tons, the model X is quite heavy and on challenging country roads it feels its weight. While it stays somewhat flat through the corners, it is not as agile as a model S.
It is fair to say that Model X is not the revelation that the model was s and, in a way, is more common with an MPV than with an SUV, but it is unmistakable, futuristic and very smart (I don’t even have no Once touches the autonomous technology that it shares with the model).
However, the X model is not perfect. It is not as geared towards the driver like the Model S and it is a seven -seater in one press. In addition, the “Falcon -Wing” doors are a bit slow for some. The doors also mean that a box cannot be attached to the roof, even though a “hitch rack” can be attached to the back of the car.
However, one thing is certain – the model X is another breath of fresh air from California. In the truest sense of the word, because it is equipped with a HEPA filter system that fills the cabin with “medical air”, no matter what happens outside. There are three mode circulation with external air, in the air and a biowaffe defense mode, which is created an overpressure within the cabin to protect the residents.
