We climb behind the tax of the Volvo XC40 – the European car of 2018. Does it live the hype?
What is that?

First impressions

You can activate different functions of your car from your smartphone or smartwatch, including starting the engine remote, to heat the cabin or to cool and send a goal directly to the Sat -NAV – both before you start your engine.
Volvo’s semi-autonomous drive technology from Volvo can be specified. It helps with steering and controls the braking and acceleration that is necessary to keep the car safe on the lane and on the desired cruise or at a defined distance from any vehicle before the lead. I was not 100% sure of the system when I tried it for the first time in other recent Volvos, but it is now excellent, albeit a little scary.
The whole car is well built, there is a solid feeling and inside it is stylish with many soft touch surfaces.
The driving position is adequately high with excellent view, there is enough space in front and back for adults, although the fifth passenger has to span the gear tunnel.
The trunk is also good and stretches from 460 liters to 1,336 liters when you fold down the rear seats.
There is a clever touch in the trunk because the floor folds to share the room – ideal, for example to stop shopping bags.
The safety in the city, the AEB system (automatic Emergency Brems) from Volvo, which can be discovered with pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, is among the large number of security systems on board Oncoming vehicle and helps you to safely steer you back into your lane.
Engine selection

The D4 diesel can meet 62 miles per hour in 7.9 seconds and be equipped with 130 km / h. It can be 55MPG on paper while the CO2 emissions are 135 g/km.
The Toping T5 area is the fastest XC40 with a time of 0-62 miles per hour of only 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 140 km / h. However, the fuel consumption takes a hit (39 MPG) and the CO2 emissions rise to 168 g/km.
Manual and front-wheel drive versions are also available.
How does it drive?
In short – very good. The XC40 has some of the best driving dynamics you can find in an SUV, not only in its class.
With sharp, beautifully weighted steering, a comfortable drive, a lot of grip and a lot of serenity in corners, it ticks all the right box.
Regardless of whether you drive the motorways, commute through the city, commute through the city on the school run or enjoy a spirited journey on more demanding roads, the XC40 delivers.
Both engines that I have tried have more than enough grunts for daily driving, and for the most part they are both refined, although the diesel is more likely to be known.
Verdict
The Volvo XC40 is simply one of the best SUVs you can buy. As if its brave appearance is not enough, it is not enough to engage the driving dynamics and high processing quality – it is also generously equipped, comfortable and extremely safe.
