The brand new Touareg marks a turning point for Volkswagen. If a VW has ever closed the gap over its premium competitors, it is.
Of course, the new flagship of the Volkswagen area was blessed with some of the best DNA in the automotive world. How could it fail?
Of course, VW would prefer it if I did not mention his bloodline and only talked about the big new SUV, but they cannot ignore the elephants in the room – and I don’t mean that in a bad way.
The strange thing is that you did such a good job with the Touareg that it will be difficult for some to justify the additional effort for a Q7 or Cayenne.
Appeal Access badge, it drives both cars nearby (in their entry level) and offers a huge competition for the other big beasts of the SUV-World-Den BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GL and Range Rover Sport.
Longer, wider and somewhat longer than its predecessor, Touareg cuts the third generation a fine figure. Gone is the slightly dump look of the MK2 in favor of a much sharper, better proportioned design.
The first thing you notice is the huge grille. BREATS with chrome slats and integrated LEDs gives the car immense street presence.
The new Touareg was also on diet and, thanks to the stronger use of the light aluminum, lost more than 100 kg.
Climb on board and it is clear from the cockpit that this is a very special car. There are three equipment variant, R-Line and R-Line-Tech. Choose the latter and you will receive the innovision cockpit from VW-a Dashboard to get a 12-inch digital instrument cluster (Active Info Display) in front of the driver to get into a cinematic 15-inch touchscreen (Discover Premium -Infotainment system) to merge in the system.
The minimalist center touchscreen is the touareg nerve center – it is not only very intelligent, but also “gesture control”. If you move your hand towards the screen, additional menus are miraculously displayed, and it is possible to move from right to the left with a swipe gesture to change the sides and control the media (e.g. B. radio station of the switch).
From £ 48,995 for the SEL and increasing to 58.195 GBP for the Tech-Tech of the Top-The Range R-Line, there is also an essential option list that can possibly increase the price considerably.
My R-Line-Tech-Tauto woke the scale with a mighty £ 72.975 extras with the head-up display (£ 1,080), air suspension with rear axle hinge (£ 2,370), ‘Savona’ R-line leather pad (£ 820 ) and a panorama sliding roof (£ 1,260).
At the start, the Touareg has a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel, which produces 282 hp. A 228 hp version of the same engine has just been added to the line-up, while a 335-horsepower 3, 0-liter V6 petrol turbo will follow.
The largest diesel (3.0 V6 TDI) can return 42.8 MPG, 0-62 miles per hour, 6.1 seconds last, while the top speed is 146 miles per hour. It is also suitable with a Slick-8-speed-tiptronic automatic transmission. It is also equipped with permanent all -wheel drive (4Motion). There is a selection of four driving modes on the street, off-road, off-road, individual and snow as well as five drivers settings (eco, comfort, normal, sport and individual).
The Touareg sailed through its Euro -Ncap Crash Security test and achieved a maximum of five stars and undoubtedly helped with its massive selection of safety and tech of driver aid, including active speed control, autonomous emergency brakes (AEB), night vision (thermal imaging camera), intelligent headlights, Traffic recognition, park assistant and Lane Assist.
It is unnecessary to say that there is enough space inside to travel five comfort, although, unlike some competitors, there is no option for a third row of seats. However, the luggage capacity is massive 810 liters or 1,800 liters with the rear seats.
The Touareg is surprisingly refined and is a seriously demanding piece of kit that is difficult to owe. There is more than enough goals from the silky V6, grip is excellent and excellently composed.
Push it a little on flowing country roads and it is surprisingly sporty and agile with a minimal body, which is too slim in the curve.
With a tight turning circle (thanks to all-wheel steering), it also offers good visibility and easy steering, so that driving in the city is not so difficult to get used to its dimensions.
Verdict: The brand new Volkswagen Touareg is a great new Volkswagen, an even larger WOW factor.
