What is that?
The up! has been there since 2011 and has produced almost identical sister models; Sates Mii and Skodas Citigo. It has long been seen as one of the best city cars in the engine world. The sales points include excellent packaging and high value compared to most competitors. The styling is effective to dress up the box -shaped proportions and look adult and intelligent.
With the turbo loading of the 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, which can be found in lower models, you have deleted an additional 23 hp to show a total of 115 hp. First impressions
My test car was finished in white with a contrasting black roof, which fits his character perfectly. The interior is typically Volkswagen, which means unique instruments and solid functional switchgear. The standard sports seats are firm, but comfortable, and since it is a city car, the visibility of all-round is excellent.
The back room is pretty good for such a small car with enough space for two adults and the trunk is surprisingly large with a deep floor.
Since there is no integral infotainment screen, controls for radio etc. are pretty simple, but work well enough. I had no chance of using VW’s own satellite NAV software, but the smartphone dock is perfectly above the main dashboard, so that the use of Google Maps is really easy to use as an alternative.
How does it drive?
The first thing you notice at the start is the sporty exhaust note. This has an immediate attraction, even before you turn a bike, and although part of the noise is artificially improved via the audio speaker, it will impress every benzinc pot.
The lifting is rather fast than super fast, but the six-speed gear Snicks easily between the backgrounds, so that the engine is always on the cook. Supported by its compact dimensions, the up! Can get on and out like a small dodge in and out of traffic. The steering is direct, the brakes are strong and the chassis even remains the closest curves.
I was also relieved that the GTI, when I left urban traffic and went to open streets, did not feel from his depth. In fact, this pocket rocket in the streets is evading faster A and B streets.
It accelerates greatly, hugs the street and does everything at a speed that avoids the risk of losing your license.
It’s just a lot of fun to drive and I have expanded every trip just to enjoy the experience. It even stays on motorway rides. It may be a bit loud, but never feels undermined.
Verdict
Volkswagen nailed it with the up! Gti. If you are looking for a new little car that is great in the city, but is also practical and fun on every street, it ticks all the boxes. As an antidote against the stress of hard work and busy days, I cannot imagine a cheaper way to blow all spinning weavers away.
