The brand new Kia Ceed has lost its enigmatic apostrophe, but it has won much more. We drive the third generation of Kia’s popular family flash …
The new Ceed was designed, designed, designed and developed in the European Design Center of KIA in Frankfurt in the competitive price from 18,295 GBP and tested in detail on streets in Europe, including Great Britain.
The impressive competitors of the Ceeds The Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon, Honda Civic and Vauxhall Astra are longer, wider and sportier than its predecessor.
At Sportage and Venga in the huge European work of Kia near Zilina in Slovakia (see what I did there), it is from scratch.
The outgoing CEE’D has always been an attractive option, but the new car (only as a five -door) is even better and has a slimmer profile, a sharper lines and a real feeling of quality.
The “ice cubes” ripening are now integrated into the spoiler and integrated by the range by default. Overall, the sporty attitude and the distinctive front end give a real street presence.
The decent, well-designed interior of the Ceed reflects other KIA models with a lot of plastic and a traditional feeling for the dashboard and the center console with dials and keys, although the latter is crowned by a “floating” infotainment touchscreen.
There is space for adults to travel in the front and back comfort, and the visibility is generally good, except for the rear slip window, which is located on the small side. It is worth noting that the panorama sliding roof, although it is, eats headroom for larger passengers in the back.
There is a useful 395 liter luggage capacity (1,291 liters with folded rear seats) with a lower lip to facilitate access. If you need even more space, the real estate version (known as a sports wagon) could be exactly on your street. It has an impressive 625 liters of space and expanded to 1,694 liters.
Trim options
There are four equipment variant, starting with the grade ‘2’, the “Blue Edition” (a start version in Blue Flame with extra kit), followed by ‘3’ and the Highspec ‘First Edition’
The Ceed is generously equipped in a reputable cruise control, automatic headlights and 16-inch alloys together with the track holder assistant, the attention warning of the drivers and, above all, the KIA version of the autonomous emergency braking (AEB), known as the Forward Collision-Avoidance. Assist city (FCA).
Move the notes and other tempting treats available-from cooling places with eight speakers with a JBL premium sound system with a wireless mobile phone charger and intelligent speed control.
We assume that the ‘Blue Edition’ or Grade ‘3’ are the sweet spots in the area, partly because the entry level ‘2’ is only equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen that is sufficient, but without navigation . Go for the higher grades and you will receive an 8.0-inch screen and an integrated NAV.
Engine selection
You can choose between two turbocharger petrol engines and a diesel, and there is a selection of a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic (DCT).
The gasoline options include the zealous 1.0-liter T-GDI engine (turbo-lamp-petrol-directinjection), which produces 118 hp such as the brand new 138 PS 1,4-liter T-GDI, which is the fastest and 8 , 60 km / h for 6 seconds from a standstill and continues. at a top speed of 130 km / h. The fuel consumption is better in the automatic version of 50.4 MPG, while the CO2 emissions are between 127 and 132 g/km.
If you spend your time with the cruise with the motorways, the 1.6 CRDI can be more sensible. It can be up to 74.3 MPG, reach 60 miles per hour a little more than 10 seconds and emits a low 99 g/km CO2.
How does it drive?
I tested the 1.6 CRDI in degrees ‘2’ Spec and the 1.4-liter T-GDI of the first edition, both with a six-speed manual.
I am with the 1.0-liter T-GDI with three cylinders from elsewhere in the Kia area and it is a lively small engine, but the new turbo with four cylinders 1.4 is serious the best mix of performance and economy.
From the first round of the key it is clear that the new Ceed is very refined, depending on which engine.
The diesel fires surprisingly smoothly and is hardly known if you do not ground the pedal. It is a Torquey unit at lower speeds, but it is not particularly fast and sometimes seemed to go out the puff during our hilly test track. It requires more equipment changes than they would normally expect in a diesel.
In contrast, the 1.4-liter T-GDI seemed more reaction and felt much faster. In addition, the fuel consumption of almost 50 MPG can be accessible with a little restraint.
With a sharpened chassis and a slight steering, driving the Kia is simple and entertaining. The journey is more comfortable than sporty, although you can choose from normal and sports modes (depending on equipment variants).
It’s good. There is less body slim than the outgoing model and the handle is good. In particular, however, the rear suspension is not the last word in sophistication when it comes to leading larger bumps on the street.
In general, driving the new Ceed is a more appealing experience and we look forward to testing the hotter version when it appears.
Verdict: The Kia Ceed has always been a good car, but this new model is a real step in terms of design, drive capacity and processing quality. Smart looks, more space and a good selection of engines, combined with improved driving dynamics, set it among the managers in its class. The addition of Kia’s call for reliability and unbeatable seven-year guarantee could vibrate for many medium-sized flowers.
