There is a real sum of the new i30 N-the first car from Hyundai’s new ‘n’ performance-sub-fire, but is it just a hype or can it mix it with established hot hatching competitors?

What is that?

Based on the underestimated i30 sliding tail, the i30 N front-wheel drive and is driven by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a turbocher with a turbo-loaded petrol engine with a six-speed manual transmission.

The engine is available in two melody states -either 247 hp, the 260 pound -pound -torque or the 271 hp power model that we tested here.

The more powerful model also has £ 279 FT over for 18 seconds, which gives it an additional blow to overtake. It can hit 62 miles per hour in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 km / h.

The Honda Civic Type R 316 PS, the VW Golf GTI (227 hp), the Focus ST (247 hp) and the seat Leon Cupra 300 (296 hp) has just to link this.

No mention of the Ford Focus RS or Golf R? Well, no, because we would not compare apples with apples, because both amazing cars offer all -wheel drive.

The i30 N was developed with three “fun” for the drive stage “Curning, Race Track and everyday sports car”.

Prices from £ 24.995 (27,440 GBP for the performance version), include standard devices LED head and taillights, intelligent adaptive speed control, keyless entry and start/stop button as well as an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with satellite NAV and Android Auto/Apple Auto play compatibility.

GO-Fehr equipment on the standard i30 N contains 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin-Pilot-Super-Sport-Reifen, electronically controlled suspension, interference brakes, a torque vectoring system.

The i30 N output receives 19-inch alloys, Pirelli P-Zero tires, an electronic limited slip differential, larger brake, leather and suede seats with electrical setting as well as an active variable exhaust system.

First impressions

If you prefer your hot hatching a little more reserved, the i30 n is for you. It has a quiet aggressive body kit with wider wheel boxes, rear spoilers, larger wheels, red details and discrete badges, while the twin exhaust systems are the largest giveaway.

However, there is a lot going on under the skin of the i30 N, and that makes it special. Apart from the performance equipment already mentioned, the front suspension and body for additional stiffness has been reinforced and is 8 mm lower than a normal i30.

Inside it is not radically different from the standard i30, which is not that bad because it is also the cabin of the standard car, but it may not be very enough for some (such as a Golf -GTI?).

The good news is that the driving position with comfortable sports seats is excellent that is supported in the right places. The dashboard layout with a large, clear touchscreen is well created.

The addition of the control of the steering wheel drive mode, with which you can access and adapt the settings of engine and suspension settings, is ideally placed. There are five modes for recording, normal, sports, N and N Custom.

The i30 N is only available as a five -door and there is space for adults at the front and back. It also has an appropriate trunk of 381 liters that rises to 1,287 liters with the rear seats.

How does it drive?

Start the i30 N and the active variable exhaust system begins. The performance version in particular has a wonderful growl. Switch to N or Custom Drive mode when you are on the go and you can enjoy these intoxicating pops and crackles, especially when you push down.

Hyundais N department is led by Albert Biermann, the former head of the famous M department of BMW, and it shows. Sharp, well -weighted steering, paired with playful dynamics, make this a car that you can enjoy.

The willing engine and the sweet gear are perfectly matched, while the handle is excellent when you consider that so much electricity is led over the front wheels. The electronic differential (LSD) of the performance version (Electronic Limit Slip Differential) develops even more traction.

Of course, the journey is on the solid, so that the normal drive mode is best on rougher roads or longer trips. However, if you want to have fun, switch to sports or N, where the i30 n becomes some hardcore but never frightening. Flat curning and a fantastic feeling of mobility ensure an impressive package.

There is even a start control function with which the fastest short vacation is made possible by a standing start.

The i30n is not flawless, but quite close. For some it may be a bit subtle while it is capable of 40 MPG on paper, but that’s the urge to explore the performance and body control of this car for the Max.

Oh, and there is a very obvious tension rod between the wheel arches behind the rear seats and breaks the river of the luggage compartment when the seats for the maximum load point are dropped.

Verdict: The N brand is named after Hyundais Globalem F&E center in South Korea, where the i30 N was born, and for the Nürburgring (home of the European test center of Hyundai Motor), where the i30 n was further developed and tested. Well, now there is another ‘n’ to expand the equation. Hyundai absolutely nailed it down with the i30 N – one of the most committed hot hatches on the market. In addition, it is the only one with a guarantee of five years.
