Peugeot 5008 SUV evaluation

A year ago Peugeot took off a masterpiece when he converted the 3008 MPV into the 3008 SUV.

The recognized new 3008 turn heads not only showed the groundbreaking digital I-cockpit of the French giant and won the European Car of the Year Award 2017.

Now, a year later, Peugeot is trying out the same trick with an SUV version of the venerable 5008 People Carrier, but can the magic work for the second time?

Well, there is no doubt that the new car has more street presence than the outgoing model.

It is clearly the attractive 3008 SUVs big brother, but it was to the gym and speaks more muscular hops. The new frontend and the light signature from Peugeot from Peugeot naturally also proudly offers to see the Lion emblem of the French car.

In looks it deviates from the 3008 in the back where it is more square, although your eye is drawn to the striking LED lights from Peugeot -Suvs.

The new 5008 SUV sets space, comfort and quality inside, both at the front and for back seat passengers. In contrast to seven seats, it is even possible that adults (up to six foot) sit in the third row. I should know because I tried it.

It is also versatile with three separate, folding, moving seats in the second row and two removable, foldable seats in the third row. It has the largest trunk capacity with 1,060 liters. Fold the second row flat, and this increases the load point to 2,150 liters, while the passenger seat also folds and increases the load length to 3.2 meters.

Peugeot does things differently and nowhere is it more obvious than for the driver and the passenger at the front.

Like the 3008, it has the impressive i-cockpit with a compact steering wheel, 8.0-inch touchscreen in the center console and a digital dashboard of 12.3 inches in front of the driver.

Also under the central touchscreen there is a series of piano keys with satin metal keys for short-term change between screen functions, including climate, navigation and smartphone without having to scroll through different menus.

I-cockpit is smooth, colorful and intuitive and is standard in the entire range, which begins at 24,495 GBP.

Elsewhere, it is clear that Peugeot promoted upscale improvements, including the use of soft touch places and general processing quality as well as optional extras, including seat massage, mood lighting and car aromas.

There are four equipment variant – active, allure, GT line and GT – and it is available with a number of efficient petrol and diesel engines.

With 128 hp and 163 hp pureetech petrol engines (1.2 and 1.6-liter) there are also 99, 118, 148 and 178 hp Bluehdi diesel engines (1.6 and 2.0 liters). There is a selection of six-speed manner or automatic gears, although no all-wheel drive option is available.

I have tested models that are equipped with the 1.2 PureTech 130, which is expected to be the largest seller and the 1.6 Bluehdi 120.

Step on the inside and of course the new 5008 SUV has an commanding driving position – it is also very comfortable and refined.

Despite its dimensions, it doesn’t feel great to drive, the visibility of the all -round is good and it is surprisingly nimble with a slight steering and well -controlled body roll.

A 128-PS-1,2-three-cylinder petrol engine seems unimaginably small and underpinned for a seven-seater, but it is a brave artist. Push it and the familiar thrum is obvious, but Peugeot has done a great job in sound insulation that most would never guess what is below the bonnet.

For the data record, this version is in 10.9 seconds, a top speed of 117 km / h and 55.4 MPG, good for 0-62 miles per hour.

If you want a little more refinement and business, then choose the diesel. The 118 hp 1.6-liter has more than enough Stocher for most with a time of 0 to 62 miles per hour of 12.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 113 km / h. It is able to be 61.4MPG on paper and 50 MPG should be available in daily driving.

The diesel is a relaxed cruiser, especially if you agree with the automatic transmission, and probably the better option if you spend hours on motorways, during the 2.0-liter value to those that carry regularly.

Peugeot does not pretend that the 5008 is a serious off-roader, but an advanced handle control that is improved and the traction improves and the Hill Assist relegation control are options, and of course there is this additional ground clearance.

With a maximum euro NCAP crash security assessment of five-star NCAP crash, partly thanks to the autonomous emergency braking (standard in the entire area) and other driver aid systems, the 5008 is a safe car.

It can be done against a tough competition, including the Skoda Kodiaq, Nissan X-Trail, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe, so it has to be good, and frankly it is difficult to owe as long as they are not Looking for a 4×4.

Verdict: The new Peugeot 5008 is a class act with a real feeling of quality. Well done to drive versatile, surprisingly sporty and being economical, it should be on the big shortlist of all SUVs.
