The Renault Koleos is the latest participant in the violently fighted SUV segment with the middle to the large SUV, which contains the Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Kia Sorento and Skoda Kodiaq.
The Kolrover range of Renault, which also includes the capture and Kadjar, is the flagship car of the French giant. Therefore, it is offered in just two top specifications – Dynamique S and Signature.
It can share a name with an earlier, unloved Renault Suv, which was equipped in 2010 from its misery, but luckily the new koleos has much more to offer.
Big and good-looking (it is about as large as the new Skoda Kodiaq) and shares numerous design functions with its Renault siblings, including typical C-shaped LED day running lights on the front and horizontally integrated tail drgs.
There is no doubt that the koleos have street presence thanks to its size, shaped lines, muscular hats and two exhaust systems. It is also well proportioned for an SUV with relatively short overhangs.
Step inside and it is clear that Renault continues his push hub market, as it is well built with a lot of soft touch and durable plastics, satin-fine chrome inserts, leather and comfortable sitting.
In the meantime, the dashboard and the center console have a similar view of Renault’s other newer cars with an appropriate portrait touchscreen (7 or 8.7 inches, depending on the Spec) and 7-inch TFT digital Speedo.
The technologies include driver assistance systems, automatic emergency braking, warning with blind spots, warning for wastage, an overpuration with traffic signs and Hill Start.
The security features include ABS (anti-lock brake system), ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with traction and under control, cruise control, speed limiter, six airbags, side impact protection poles and assembly points for child seats on the two full-backers.
The rear passengers also benefit from the option of heated seats, while at the front there is also a seat cooling of the seat cooling, so that on hot days there is no sweaty back!
Sit down and the koleos have the feeling of a large salon with a lot of legroom, enough head space for everyone except the highest adults and lots of light thanks to a panoramic course.
Of course, the trunk is a generous, but not class -leading 458 liters (1,690 liters with the rear seats) and there are many storage rooms.
And a third row of seats like Kodiaq and Sorento? Well, no, because Renault says that the koleos were designed as a five -seater from the start. This does not mean that Renault is not suitable for customers who want seven seats – see exactly as the new Grand Scenic.
Seats are not the only area that distinguishes the koleos from the opposition. It is only available with diesel engines-a 1.6-liter DCI 130- or 2.0-liter DCI 175.
The oversized version of the koleos is also delivered with the entire mode 4 × 4-i all-wheel drive to select your driving mode, automatic, block or 2WD.
I tested the 2.0-liter turbo diesel, which was combined with Renault’s new X-Tronic automatic continuous variable gear (CVT).
Up to 47.9 MPG, a time of 0 to 62 miles per hour of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 125 miles per hour, the CO2 emissions is an appropriate 156 g/km (the manual version is somewhat with lower emissions more economic). be 40mpg.
Now I am not a fan of CVT broadcasts that are idiosyncratic in my experience, but Renault deserves respect for the X-Tronic, which simulates chic shifts, which makes the driving experience much more pleasant.
In fact, the koleos is a relaxed cruiser that feels faster than the characters suggest. With an commanding driving position, it is clearly more conceived for comfort than for dynamics.
However, it is not perfect – street sounds are obvious, especially on rough surfaces, while the suspension does not take up quite as well at lower speeds.
Keener drivers may also find handling a little disappointing, since the disadvantage of this soft ride is a bit of body roll on more demanding roads.
On the positive side – in contrast to the Kodiaq – it doesn’t feel that big on the street.
I also tried a bit of sofaoading, and although it is not marketed as a hardcore 4 × 4, it has some terrace capacity. Despite the lack of hill relegation control, it made it good and there was a noticeable difference between 2WD and 4WD.
Although it is unlikely that the koleos will be used seriously in the area, it is reasonably robust and should be calmed down under more extreme weather conditions.
The koleos from £ 27,500 to 34,200 GBP are blessed with a four-year guarantee (like all Renaults), although the lack of seven seats and a petrol engine option may be released.
Verdict: The new Renault Koleos is stylish, safe, comfortable and well equipped and is a class act and should be on your shortlist when looking for a large SUV.
