Skoda has continuously developed the call to create spacious, reliable, well -built cars.
It is then no surprise that the company now uses its attention to SUVs-of the fastest growing sector today and its USP.
If you don’t count the quirky Yeti, the Kodiaq Skoda’s first trip to the crossover market and certainly makes an unforgettable first impression. It is enormous.
At 4.69 meters long, 1.88 m wide and 1.67 m high, it definitely has street presence. Add Skoda’s characteristic clean lines and it is an extensive but stylish package.
Step in and it is a similar story. A factual and but attractive design, space space bags at the front and back, many storage rooms, a huge trunk (720 liters or a first-class 2065 liters with the back seats).
But here is the thing, the Kodiaq also has two seats that are flat in the trunk, which can be easily turned over, which turns the SUV into a passenger carrier.
At first glance, they only seem to fit for small kits, but push the middle row to the front and it is possible that adults are also sitting in the back seats.
And although the passengers in seats 2, 3 and 4 do not quite have the limo -like legroom they had before, it is completely bearable.
The Kodiaq is therefore a triumph of the packaging and is offered with a number of petrol and diesel engines as well as with all-wheel drive, if specified.
But since diesel gets a bad press, more buyers could be tried to choose the smaller petrol model – the 1.4 TSI.
At first it seems inappropriate to have such a small engine in a relatively large car, but the powerful unit develops 150 hp and can drive this animal in 9.7 seconds and at a top speed of 122 km / h up to 62 miles per hour.
Combined with a six-speed DSG car box in my test car, it is surprisingly lively and sophisticated. With three drive modes (normal, ecological, sport) there is no doubt »I always have the best time, especially if you put your foot in the other modes.
That means just take it and the gear is fine. Better still, drives on motorways and flowing streets and it is a joy.
My other reservation would be that with a complete addition of passengers and luggage, the 1.4 turbo petrol engine sometimes has to struggle. So if you consider this specification, drive with volunteers armed and drive onto the hills.
Obviously, the engine selection also has an effect. This engine (with 150 hp and 190 hp outputs) returns up to 57 MPG, while the CO2 emissions of 131 g/km are emitted.
The 1.4tsi is good for a claimed 44.8 MPG with CO2 emissions of 143 g/km. There is another 180 hp 2.0-liter petrol engine that is fast, but is only returned up to 38 MPG.
It is also worth noting that the 1.4TSI uses active cylinder technology from Skoda (ACT), which closes the second and third cylinder when the load and the engine speed are low.
The Kodiaq has worked well for a large SUV as long as you don’t try to drive it like a hot hat.
It is bulky and light and easy and easy when it is pressed too tightly in corners, but in general it is stable, comfortable and relaxed.
Select the sports mode if you want to make faster progress and the suspension is a little tight, but it is not difficult to forget that you are driving a large SUV.
I drove an SE -SPEC car that is near the top of the area and is probably the most popular choice.
The S and SE are well equipped, but the SE L adds complete LED lights, Select mode, seven seats, black Alcantara pads, heated front seats and an excellent 9.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with columbus -Navigation added.
The Kodiaq is also safe. Euro NCAP has awarded a maximum of five stars in crash security tests and achieved an assessment of 92% for the protection of adults and 77% for the way they protected children. An automatic standard brake in the entire range also impressed, while other driver aids such as the adaptive speed control, Lane Assist, Blind Spot Detect, Not Assist, traffic jam assist and traffic signs are available.
From £ 28,650 it is still a way of 22,190 £ Kodiaq basic price, but it is still a good price -performance ratio.
And of course it comes with Skoda specialties that we can expect, including rail -on umbrellas in the front doors and an ice scraper behind the fuel flap and a removable LED flashlight in the trunk.
Verdict: The Kodiaq is another excellently packaged, solid car from Skoda. Just go with the options and you could have a large amount of SUV for your money from a company that makes a habit to take over customer satisfaction.
