You have to give it Suzuki. Just a few months after the start of the surprisingly good Baleno Supermini, another fascinating newcomer comes in the compact and unique form of the IGnis.
On a fall, Suzuki carved a new niche with the cute little ignis – a mini crossover with probably no direct competitors.
With bold and original styling, a powerful, economic engine as well as safety technology and all-wheel drive, the Ignis is a pint size miracle.
Not to be confused with the largely unforgettable assemblybackback, which was last sold in 2008, the brand new Ignis only costs £ 9,999.
Immediately recognizable from all perspectives, it looks particularly cheeky from the front. However, these chunky C columns and their trapeze are upright, which share the opinion. Regardless of whether it works for you or not, the Ignis stands out in so many other species.
There are three equipment variant SZ3, SZ-T and SZ5. The standard features in the entire area include DAB radio, Bluetooth, air conditioning, body-colored wing mirrors and six airbags.
However, it is worth looking at each note in detail, since some functions such as the 7-inch touchscreen, the cruise control and the rear parking camera are not available on the basic model, which means that the mid-range SZ-T offers the best value.
At the start, the Ignis is available with a 1.2-liter dual jet petrol engine and a somewhat more powerful “mild” hybrid version of the same unit.
In short, SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki) is a compact and light system that acts both as a generator and as a starter engine and remove the engine during the vehicle and also generates electricity by regenerative braking. In other words, it has a little more omp.
The basic 89-hp unit, which can be provided with a five-speed manual or an automatic transmission, may not be the most powerful engines, but thanks to the light weight of the car, it is sufficient to do it in 13.5 seconds and in 13, 5 seconds to drive and drive to 62 miles per hour. A top speed of 106 km / h. It can be 61.4 MPG on paper, while the CO2 emissions are low 104 g/km.
For the Range hybrid engine in SZ5 and the 0-62 miles per hour to 11.4 seconds, as well as CO2 emissions to 97 g/km, which means that it is also street tax. As an additional bonus, the economy increases to 65.7 MPG.
Inside, the Ignis is surprisingly spacious for such a small car. At 3.7 meters long and 1.7 m wide, for example, it is closer to a Fiat 500 than a Nissan Juke.
The front seats are comfortable, the seating position is quite high and thanks to the high roof there is a lot of headroom for larger people. Obviously it is more comfortable in the back, but it is appropriate for two adults, which can say more than for most cars of this size. However, the high waist, the data protection glass and the C -Column -Styling of the car delete some light in the back.
The SZ3 model has a firm back seat and a luggage area of 267 liters, but here is the clever piece. The SZ-T and SZ5 models have a divided back seat and everyone can push 165 mm to offer either a larger luggage capacity or more rear passenger leg.
There is no soft-touch premium plastics in this cabin with no-nonsense, but what do you expect from a sub-£ 10,000 car?
The instrument Binnacle in front of the driver is minimalistic and functional, while the basic 7-inch touchscreen in the center console is done by the job (ie Sat Nave, Radio and complete connectivity via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirrorlink), even if it looks like one Small subsequent thought.
Decide for the flagship -sz5 model and you will receive a double cameras brake support, with which objects (including pedestrians) can be recorded on the way of the car, can draw attention to the driver and apply the brakes if necessary. With this system, the SZ5 was awarded a maximum of five stars in Euro NCAP tests.
The ignis is easy to drive with easy steering and a tight turning circle and makes it perfect for urban driving – its natural habit. Push it on more demanding roads at higher speeds and it is a bit unsettled and there is some body role. That means it will be pretty happy on a highway.
The engine is somewhat refined, but becomes harder when pushing. The mild hybrid version offers a slight power divider, which means that the gears do not have to be edited as hard.
Carefully driven, the journey is okay, but it jumps with higher speeds or on uneven roads.
In order to complement the cute styling, there is also enough scope for personalization with 11 choice of colors (two-tone flame orange pear metallic for me) and interior design options.
The bracket for some, especially if you live somewhere with extreme weather conditions, the Allgrip ‘Auto’ option with all -wheel drive may be. It is not a Land Rover, but it will be more traction in slippery conditions or on rougher terrain. There is even hill relegation control.
So the new Suzuki Ignis is not perfect, but it is more likely than in many ways.
Verdict: Funky, surprisingly spacious, easy to drive, benefit economically and competitive, it is one of these classless cars that can fit anywhere.
